The Insiders' Guide to

Hoi An for Families

Hoi An is one of the easiest, most rewarding family holidays you’ll find anywhere in Southeast Asia, but only if you plan it right. We've spent over a year there across multiple visits, and this guide is everything we know, handed straight to you so you can skip the research and get on with having an amazing trip.

'Can’t tell you how much of a difference it made to our trip having Tim and Emma’s insights. We’d have spent a lot of time confused and researching without it. We had the best holiday we’ve ever had, and it wouldn’t have been the same if we were going it alone.’  – Glyn Trundle

THE INFO YOU WON'T FIND ON GOOGLE OR CHAT GPT

Too much choice, lots of noise, and incentivised reviews mean you need to find information you can trust.

What you actually need is someone who has eaten in the restaurants more than once, taken their kids to the activities, and spent long enough there to know how much activities should cost and where the best spots are to spend your trip. Having had multiple trips to Hoi An totalling over a year, we know a thing or two about it!

Our own tour guide

If you’re visiting Hoi An, Emma's guide is an absolute must! Full of insider knowledge and all the top tips and gems, she made our lives so much easier as all the research had already been done for us. Restaurants, beaches and even karaoke hotspots are included… no detail is missed. It was almost like having our own tour guide 24/7. Can’t recommend enough!

Game-changer

I've been planning our big family trip for over a year now and we've finally booked it.

The guide is an absolute game changer and I couldn't recommend it enough. From accommodation recommendations, to the best beaches to what to do with little ones and 'nice to have's' I couldn't have planned my trip without it. Highly recommend to anyone who wants more than an AI written itinerary - this is authenticity at it's best.

Your Questions Answered

Is this suitable for families with young children?

Yes, and it’s written with that in mind throughout. Our daughters were 9 and 6 on our first visit, and we’ve returned with them multiple times since over a 2.5 year period, so the recommendations reflect what it actually looks like to be there with children of different ages.

We're only going for a few days - is it worth it?

If anything, more so. When you’ve got less time, you can’t afford to waste any of it on a disappointing meal or the wrong area of town, and knowing exactly where to go from day one makes a short trip feel far more satisfying than one spent getting your bearings.

How up to date is the information?

The guide reflects our most recent experience of Hoi An, and everyone who purchases receives free updates automatically whenever things change, so you’ll always have the current version rather than something written years ago that nobody has looked at since.

Is this suitable for other worldschoolers?

Yes, worldschoolers will find the guide useful. The guide is created with shorter stays in mind however, so it doesn't include details about the worldschooling community or how to access rentals for long stays. Everything within the guide is still relevant and great to know for worldschooling families!

Hello!

We're Two Kids and a Backpack

A full-time travelling family.

We first arrived in Hoi An in March 2024, and what was supposed to be a few weeks turned into 4 months. We kept considering leaving, but stayed because it ticked SO many boxes for our family. In total, we've spent over 14 months (and counting) living in this town with our two kids, and it's become the place we've felt most at home since leaving the UK.

So when we say we know Hoi An, we really do know it as a family who has lived, worked, explored, and built a life there. We've found the best restaurants, the hidden beaches, the activities that kids actually enjoy, and we've also made plenty of mistakes along the way so you don't have to.
